Speaking Engagements

Research-led talks and workshops for classrooms and communities.

I regularly present talks on the intersection of philosophy and theology as well as reflections on the role of Christianity in modern society. I speak at a variety of venues from high schools to churches.

Signature Topics:

  1. The Problem of Evil: The problem of evil can be summarised by the question, if God is all good and all powerful, why is there evil? As my research interest, I provide an examination of key themes in the problem of evil and how one may attempt to navigate the complex web of argumentation on this topic. This provides attendees with food for thought and a foundation upon which they can develop their own approaches to the problem.
  2. Fyodor Dostoevsky: A true example of an inter-disciplinary genius, with contributions to philosophy, theology, and literature, Fyodor Dostoevsky provides a wonderful, evergreen source of reflection. Depending on audience, I can give talks on Dostoevsky’s main works and ideas to prompt inter-disciplinary engagement and reflection.
  3. Introduction to Theology: Theology provides the foundation of our Christian practice yet is often underdiscussed in Bible Studies and sermons. Depending on topic of interest, I occasionally provide talks on theology as well as the intersection between philosophy and theology.
  4. Public Philosophy: One of my major passions is making philosophy accessible to a wide audience. From my experience running a YouTube channel, I share how one can balance academic research with our responsibilities to broader society.

Who Talks Are For:

From youth groups to adult ministries to academic conferences, I have had the privilege to speak to audiences from all ages and levels of expertise. Before talks, I meet with leaders at institutions to discuss goals and audience such that they have the best effect.

[Joshua] is especially good at fielding and answering questions on the spot, yet humble enough to acknowledge when he is unsure of an answer that requires further study or is still debatable among scholars. I highly recommend Joshua as a speaker to engage any audience in thoughtful consideration of issues of faith in today’s world.
